Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart and its neighbors continue to clash.
The latest issue involves Thanksgiving.
Sacred Heart – the all-girls school located at 3860 Main St. – requested a special meeting of the Amherst Planning Board next week. The school is seeking approval of a parking plan for the new gymnasium being built, so construction can stay on schedule.
But neighbors who oppose the project – which abuts their properties on Crosby Boulevard – question why the public hearing has to be called two days before a major holiday.
Some of the interested residents won’t be able to attend the hearing and asked the Planning Board that it be delayed.
Even the Amherst Town Board – questioning the urgency of the matter – agreed, and requested the Planning Board postpone the hearing until the next regularly-scheduled meeting in January.
But Planning Board Chairman Jonathan O’Rourke informed residents that the public hearing already has been advertised and there wasn’t sufficient time to publish a cancellation notice.
So the meeting will go on as scheduled at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Amherst Municipal Building, 5583 Main St., Williamsville.
O’Rourke encouraged residents unable to attend to submit written comments to the Planning Department.
